Recently I met Marion Hambly, a visitor to MVCG, having a look around the garden. She told me about a wonderful local initiative.
Since early 2012 there has been community interest in acquiring the defunct Sydney Water tank site at 18 Fairlight Street, Fairlight, known as Manly Reservoir. The area is equivalent to three house blocks, about the same as MVCG. The proposal, well supported by Manly Council, is for an enclosed community garden on one level and a small fenced children’s playground on the other level.
Sydney Water heritage architects have drawn up sample plans for a set of two storey townhouses including the preservation of the heritage brickwork. Wouldn’t open green space be better?
I believe there is a meeting to discuss this, tonight. In light of recent developments, Sydney Water could do with some good PR. Do the right thing Sydney Water!
