The TV show Better Homes & Gardens filmed at the garden last Tuesday. Jason Hodges was really impressed with our compost bins and the vegetables growing in the plots. I think he said (or should have if he didn’t), that there should be a community garden on every street corner. The star of the show was our very own Ursula & her gorgeous children.
Manly Vale Public School P&C visited the garden on a cold Thursday morning. The school is in the initial stages of setting up their school garden. I hope they left with some good permaculture ideas.
Now for something not so inspiring. As you know we are a Harvest Hub collection point on Wednesdays from 2.30pm.Usually the collection point would be a private home with the resident gettting a free bag of fruit & vegetables for their time spent packing the bags. Here at MVCG we receive money in lieu of a bag of produce and rely on the good nature of our members to help with the packing. Our very hard-working Sue B. has been doing it tough with a very small band of helpers and this Wednesday had to pack 17 bags on her own in the freezing wind. Not much fun. If we cannot get more helpers we may have to re-think this service. It takes 4 people about 20 minutes to pack the bags. Not much of a time committment really.
